They are a great stepping stone between very basic “yes or no” questions and completely open questions which could be a little intimidating for less advanced students. They also get students to use the language outside of what they’re used to which will help them feel confident speaking in a wider range of situations. These questions are extremely useful they are fun which engages the student more. The explanation of why they chose their answer is what really tests their ability to produce the language (rather than giving you a series of one-word answers).
